The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Reception

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a more defined vision.

The president stated that the developers is now overhauling the project with a renewed approach, aiming to address community desires.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the complete message from Ismailer's memo:

Team—

I know you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It affirmed the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the need for a more distinct vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our audience.

The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of talks, he comes aboard us on the specified date.

Ben’s guidance and experience in the PVP shooter field is vast, having devoted the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in welcoming Ben next week. We are all eager to persist seeing the development of the game in the time to come.

David

Background of the Incoming Head

Brinkman currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman previously worked at major gaming companies in various production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Information and Vision

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Then, the developers portrayed the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling advancement on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the official summary explains. "Challenge the rivals with new abilities, risks, and obstacles that shift every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and pray your squad can achieve the highest spot? The choice is up to you."

The game does not have an official release date or supported systems, but players can anticipate further news as creation progresses.
