PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
